Things I love Thursday – It’s hot edition
The past 7 days have been interesting, they’ve been hard, they’ve been exciting, they’ve been nerve wracking, they’ve been inspiring, and they’ve been fun. It’s not often that I get to go on a roller coaster of emotions in both my personal and professional life, but I’m often better off for it. Decisions that are hard to make, are worth making. So what does all that cryptic navel gazing mean? Not a heck of a lot. But things I love Thursday is still exciting and it’s a list that’s not hard to make at all.
I love fancy face junk.
I’ll admit it, I like fancy skincare products. The older I get, the more I experiment with them. Maybe I’m searching for the holy grail, maybe the options for really good vegan friendly cream have increased, maybe it’s both. I’ve never had much excitement going into a Sephora in Canada. We seem to be missing huge chunks of product lines that would be really exciting and vegan friendly. But this time around I stumbled into Boscia, and I’m really happy about it.
A little over a month ago I went to the Spoke Club for an Eco Beauty Market by Environmental Defense Canada. I was disappointed by the lack of vegan friendly makeup (or any make up really,) but that’s something I am accustomed to at “natural” events. What I’m especially tired of, is the label of “100% Vegan” while still using beeswax (cera alba.) (also, why honey and bee products aren’t vegan has been covered at length, I especially like the logical arguments presented here on Vegetus)
Companies like Green Beaver and Pelle Beauty (which I just heard about through the TVA) have created great formulation of Lip Balm (in traditional stick form) without beeswax or other such things, so I don’t know why it’s so hard not to use it.
Another skin care company I’m really digging lately is Cocoon Apothecary. I was introduced to their stuff from an event Lisa from Vegan Culinary Crusade had put on in May, and I’ve been using the Rosey Cheeks facial cream with positive results. I will have to look into buying more soon when I need it. It smells fantastic.
Playing WoW with JC.
I like playing World of Warcraft, I leveled my Tauren Druid (usually resto, sometimes balance) to 85 last month, and I finally understand what everyone says about the game really starting after that point.
My favourite part about playing these days is that JC and I can do it together. We have been catching up on old instances and racking up achievement points together, it’s been absolutely wonderful.
Cleaning the heck out of things.
I’ve had some time to clean. In fact, I’ve had lots of time to clean, do laundry, wash the floors, the bathrooms, the walls, steam clean the carpets, vacuuming, etc. And I’m not going to lie. I enjoy it. Talk about turning into your mother, I’m already there.
Vegan Food Swap
I love this so much. There are no words. I am just so very excited about it and the connections being made.
Other stuff: Letting myself post a Things I love Thursday list on a Friday. Amazing messages on facebook from friends that literally made my day a whole lot brighter. Meeting awesome inspiring people. It’s also JC’s birthday next Saturday, so that means birthday week is starting tomorrow! I’m very excited to celebrate the birth of my favourite human. Cat from The Verdant Life posted this link to a recipe for Old-Fashioned Cupcakes (JC’s favourite drink) that I might just have to (easily) veganize and make for the birthday boy. Vegan drop-in dinner tonight at The Deppaneur.
Things I don’t Like – The Heat.
It’s hot outside, and I don’t do well with heat. It’s also really humid. I come from a dry climate (Edmonton/Saskatoon) so I’m still really aware of that sticky heaviness that is in Toronto. Some people love it, I’m just not one of them. Add to that our central air is not really working properly at the moment, and I want to hide somewhere (that’s not our house.)
On the bright side, we still have power, unlike some people in the city yesterday.
Thanks for telling me about Green Beaver lip balm; I have been looking for natural, vegan lip balm forever and couldn’t find one. I LOVE everything by Cocoon Apothecary. They are from Kitchener, cruelty-free, vegan, organic and have signed the Compact for Safe Cosmetics.
Have you heard of the North American Hemp co? They are vegan and make lotions and hair care products. I really like their stuff and it’s Canadian.
