It wasn&#8217;t really a surprise that it was packed, since so many <a href=\"http:\/\/niagaravegan.com\">exciting vegan things<\/a> are happening in the area, but the crowds were a little overwhelming at times. According to the organizers 1250 people dropped by to check out the festival that day. Amazing.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Niagara-VegFest.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-826\" title=\"Niagara VegFest\" src=\"https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Niagara-VegFest-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Niagara-VegFest-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Niagara-VegFest-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There was a great selection of <a href=\"http:\/\/niagaravegfest.com\/exhibitors-and-vendors\/\">30 exhibitors and vendors<\/a>. We skipped breakfast in preparation to start snacking on tasty food at the festival, and we were not disappointed. JC tried a pizza pocket from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.niagaralocalfoodcoop.ca\/shop\/producers\/happy.php\">Happy Vegan Kitchen<\/a>, and I think he liked it since it disappeared.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Pizza-Pocket-from-Happy-Vegan-Kitchen.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-827\" title=\"Pizza Pocket from Happy Vegan Kitchen\" src=\"https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Pizza-Pocket-from-Happy-Vegan-Kitchen-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Pizza-Pocket-from-Happy-Vegan-Kitchen-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Pizza-Pocket-from-Happy-Vegan-Kitchen-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Other food related highlights (at least for me) were the Dulce de la Leche cupcakes from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kindfood.com\/\">Kindfood<\/a>\/GFV Baking Co (From Burlington, Ontario)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Dulce-De-La-Leche-from-KindFood.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-824\" title=\"Dulche de leche\" src=\"https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Dulce-De-La-Leche-from-KindFood-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Dulce-De-La-Leche-from-KindFood-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Dulce-De-La-Leche-from-KindFood-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And the bean and tofu tacos from <a href=\"http:\/\/artisandoughnuts.blogspot.ca\/\">Rise Above Bakery &amp; Catering<\/a>\u00a0(120 St. Paul St., St. Catherines, ON)\u00a0that JC picked up for me after I escaped the hall and hid in the sun outside with a coffee from local cafe <a href=\"http:\/\/mahtay.ca\/index.php\">Mahtay Cafe &amp; Lounge<\/a> (241 St. Paul Street).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/taco-from-Rise-Above.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-828\" title=\"taco from Rise Above\" src=\"https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/taco-from-Rise-Above-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/taco-from-Rise-Above-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/taco-from-Rise-Above-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Last thing we picked up was a box of vegan treats from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sestrespastries.com\/\">Sestres Coffee Shop<\/a> (191 Ottawa Street North, Hamilton, ON) but I knocked it around before I got a chance to take a picture, but there was a great assortment of different treats. Some I didn&#8217;t like, some I really liked, but it was perfect to have in our hotel later. I did pick up a &#8220;meat&#8221; pastry, and it was totally\u00a0flaky\u00a0and interesting. Almost like a croissant.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/vegan-pastry.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-823\" title=\"vegan pastry from Sestres Coffee Shop\" src=\"https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/vegan-pastry-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/vegan-pastry-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/vegan-pastry-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Most of all, my favourite part of the Niagara VegFest was the community of it. People were talking, people had their kids, their friends, their coworkers with them. In my case I got to meet a few people, that I had only spoken to on twitter\/facebook\/email up until that point, like <a href=\"http:\/\/theallergyfreecook.com\/\">Laurie Sadowski<\/a>, with her newest cookbook\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/theallergyfreecook.com\/about\/about-2\/\">Allergy-Free Cook Bakes Bread: Gluten-free, Dairy-free, Egg-free<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And of course, here is my favourite picture of the day, with my favourite chicken:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/DSCF1489.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-830\" title=\"Jordan my favourite chicken\" src=\"https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/DSCF1489-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/DSCF1489-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/DSCF1489-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/DSCF1489-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We spent the rest of the weekend at Niagara Falls, but more on that eventually.\u00a0This weekend there is a <a href=\"http:\/\/torontorawveganfestival.com\/\">Raw\/Vegan festival in Toronto<\/a>, and I&#8217;m very excited to check it out today.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last weekend JC and I went to the Niagara region&#8217;s first VegFest at Robertson Hall, St. Catharines.
