Over the past few years, 124th has really expanded in terms of vegan offerings, starting up with <a href=\"https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/breakfast-at-home-and-clever-rabbit-roadtrip-2014\/\">Clever Rabbit<\/a>, and one of the first homes of <a href=\"http:\/\/sailinon.ca\/\">Sailin&#8217; On Vegan Food Truck<\/a> (at the <a href=\"http:\/\/124grandmarket.com\/\">124 Grand St Market<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/arcadia.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5049\" src=\"https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/arcadia.jpg\" alt=\"arcadia\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" srcset=\"https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/arcadia.jpg 640w, https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/arcadia-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/arcadia-250x166.jpg 250w, https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/arcadia-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><a title=\"Arcadia - Bar in Edmonton on 124st\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/prairiev\/16824042935\/in\/album-72157648982209114\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><br \/>\n<\/a><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" type=\"mce-mce-no\/type\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>So Arcadia has since expanded their menu from the night I was there, but luckily, they still have the incredible sandwich I had. The Green Onion Cake Donair. I&#8217;ve had a hard time conveying to non-Edmontonians what a \u201cgreen onion cake\u201d is, and why it&#8217;s so special. Most of the time in my travels and everywhere else, I&#8217;ve encountered a thin pastry like scallion\/green onion cake similar to a paratha.<\/p>\n<p>In Edmonton it&#8217;s more of a salty doughy cake with diced\u00a0green onions in it. It&#8217;s not flaky. It has a good density. There is such an obsession with these delicious cakes, there is even someone living in Edmonton with the <a href=\"http:\/\/greenonioncakes.com\/\">GreenOnionCakes.com<\/a> domain, that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ipetitions.com\/petition\/green-onion-cakes-the-official-dish-of-yeg\" target=\"_blank\">started a petition<\/a> trying to make it the official dish of Edmonton.<a title=\"Green Onion Cake Donair\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/prairiev\/16203220223\/in\/album-72157648982209114\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8627\/16203220223_b58436d3bc_z.jpg\" alt=\"Green Onion Cake Donair\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" \/><\/a><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>So, take a couple of large green onion cake, and add thinly sliced seasoned seitan donair, pour in some garlic sweet sauce, lettuce and tomatoes, and turn it into a sandwich. Brilliant. I don&#8217;t know how I feel about baked green onion cakes vs fried ones, but this sandwich totally worked out perfectly.<\/p>\n<p>Some of my Edmonton friends bailed on me on my night out, so they didn&#8217;t get to enjoy the awesomeness that is Arcadia with me, but luckily I ran into Sarah Louise Ms.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/thecozyvegan.com\/\">Cozy Vegan<\/a> and her pals. It was fun hearing about what&#8217;s new in Edmonton and the food scene. She&#8217;s also the mastermind behind <a href=\"http:\/\/bluerosevegan.ca\/\">Blue Rose Vegan Bakery<\/a>\u00a0as well as their phenomenal <a href=\"https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/blue-rose-vegan-baking-co-the-vegan-snack-attack-edmonton\/\">YEG Vegan Snack Attack<\/a> packs.<\/p>\n<p>Since I visited \u2013 Arcadia expanded to include a very nice looking brunch menu, and then put the brunch on break. Pay attention to them, they&#8217;re doing good work.
