Toronto has this great community of creators and crafters, bakers and makers, and ingenuity. There are good organizations to support this time of year, as well as food and products to buy, made right here in the GTA.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here are my totally biased choices for local\/Toronto\/vegan gift ideas.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><!--more-->Vegan Food<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/chocosol.posterous.com\">Chocosol<\/a><\/strong> (cacao loft -225 Geary Avenue, Monday to Friday 10 am to 6 pm, &amp; several farmers&#8217; markets in the city) is having a <a href=\"http:\/\/chocosol.posterous.com\/pages\/holiday-gift-packs\">several special holiday deals<\/a> this month where you can get a $50 gift certificate for $40.\u00a0If gift certificates aren&#8217;t your style, and they aren&#8217;t really my kind of thing, they&#8217;ve got ethically sourced chocolate (They&#8217;re even on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodispower.org\/chocolatelist.php\">Food Empowerment Project&#8217;s Chocolate list<\/a>), or coffee to choose from in various forms.<\/p>\n<p>You can also get multipacks of drinking chocolate, chocolate bars, or coffee at a discount either on site.<\/p>\n<p>My favourite is the Chocolate Plus Gift Packs for $40. I really like how thoughtful the whole collection is with respect to ethical and conscious choices, while still being delicious. The stuff that&#8217;s really exciting is the beautiful the very cool naturally fermented ketchup, mustard, relish, &amp; sriracha from<a href=\"http:\/\/greenresonance.com\/about\"> Kate Leinweber<\/a>. She held a few classes over at The Dep earlier this month (which I missed) on making these things, but you can also just buy them too. They look gorgeous.<\/p>\n<p>There is also Rebekka Hutton of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/AlchemyPickleCompany\">Alchemy Pickle Co.<\/a> with fermented veggies, sodas, kombucha, plant based soaps. Her stuff is also available around town <a href=\"http:\/\/alchemypicklecompany.ca\/looking-for-fresh-pickles\/\">at farmers markets, holiday markets, and at the West End Food Coop<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And Emily Zimmerman of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Pear-and-Pepper\/373120389366692?fref=ts\">Pear &amp; Pepper<\/a> will be there with Vegan Chocolates. While I&#8217;ve never had the chance to try her vegan chocolates, I&#8217;ve been to several of her drop-in dinners and supper clubs and they&#8217;ve been yummy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bunners.ca\/shop\/\">Bunner&#8217;s Bake Shop<\/a> &#8211; While they wont be doing any holiday baskets this year, they do have some holiday themed items on the menu and available, especially if you wanted to put together your own little gift basket, or are looking for stocking stuffers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a title=\"Tori's Bakeshop by MeShellG, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/prairiev\/8270784964\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8481\/8270784964_137524be32.jpg\" alt=\"Tori's Bakeshop\" width=\"350\" height=\"262\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.torisbakeshop.ca\/\">Tori&#8217;s Bake Shop<\/a> has a great little pack of a\u00a0Chalkboard\u00a0Mug with a little pack of cookies. I was lucky enough to get one to add to my chalkboard mug collection on JC&#8217;s Family\u00a0Hanukkah\u00a0Celebration this year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vegan Clothes &amp; Stuff<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sure you can order online from various retailers online like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vshoen.com\/\">VShoen<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mooshoes.com\/\">MooShoes<\/a>, or <a href=\"http:\/\/gotniceshoes.com\/\">NiceShoes<\/a>, and many others, you can also buy products from local producers like the following folks:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nella-bella.com\/\">Nella Bella<\/a> is a vegan handbag and accessories company that uses solely vegan fabrics to create a wide variety of beautiful products. Available at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nella-bella.com\/satchel_handbags_accessories_canadian_smart_suede_brand_vegan_handbags_stores\">various retailers in Toronto and beyond<\/a>\u00a0including <a href=\"http:\/\/ecoexistence.ca\/contact.html\">EcoExistence<\/a> (766 St. Clair Avenue W, Toronto) where you can find a variety of other interesting products.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.truthbelts.com\/\">Truth Belts<\/a>\u00a0makes leather-look belts, without the death. They also have suspenders for youngsters, dog accessories, and bracelets.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.weanimals.org\/buyprints_step1.php\">Photo Prints from We Animals\/Jo-Anne McArthur<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Local Cook\/Raw Books<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve got a talented crew of people in Toronto and area, and so no shortage of books filled with great recipes and ideas.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.veganculinarycrusade.com\/ebook\/?doing_wp_cron=1355541079.3077371120452880859375\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1268\" title=\"Tiny Treats eBook\" src=\"https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Tiny-Treats.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"202\" height=\"250\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Lisa (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.veganculinarycrusade.com\/\">Vegan Culinary Crusade<\/a>) and Nicole (<a href=\"http:\/\/adashofcompassion.com\/\">A Dash of Compassion<\/a>) collaborated on a great ebook called Tiny Treats. It&#8217;s full of inventive recipes, and lots of inspiration.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.christinesvegankitchen.com\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1270\" title=\"Vegan Kitchen - Christine Renaud\" src=\"https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/ChristineRenaud-Kitchen.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"264\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I had the opportunity to try a couple of Christine&#8217;s delicious soups at <a href=\"https:\/\/meshell.ca\/blog\/vegan-mofo-soupalicious-2011\/\">Soupalicious in 2011<\/a>, and also flipped through her cookbook. Toronto Green has been doing <a href=\"http:\/\/torontogreen.ca\/index.php\/programs-mainmenu-121\/waste-mainmenu-95\/eco-gift-wrapping.html\">Eco-Gift Wrapping<\/a> at Dufferin Mall (900 Dufferin Street, Toronto) and at MEC, all funds go back to the Toronto Green Community. Using expired cycling maps and gift bags designed by <a href=\"http:\/\/ecoartworx.ca\/\">EcoArtworx<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, you could probably get pretty creative with your own home collection of paper you haven&#8217;t yet recycled yet or old fabric\/clothes.
