Just a handy list of vegan and vegan-friendly events including fundraisers, panel discussions, demonstrations, food justice focused conversations, race and food, amongst others. I endeavor to only add events from groups and organizations that I know have reasonable community accountability and offer safe spaces.

Events are primarily in Toronto, but also include events around Ontario, Northwestern New York State, Northern Michigan, and other places that are a short(ish) drive away.

I try and include venue accessibility information with every post. Not all events are accessible, but I will include that information wherever possible.

For local farmers market information please visit The Toronto Farmers Market Network for listings. Several Farmers Markets have specialized vegan vendors, in addition to offering all the beautiful local produce grown right here in Ontario.

Urban Acorn – Haitian Independence Day – Vegan Supper Club

January 3, 2015 @ 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

$45

Heritage Month Part 1: Haiti’s Independence

January marks two important holidays for Urban Acorn co-founders Marie & Chef Daniel: Haiti’s Independence day & Robbie Burns day. Both will be commemorated, beginning with Haiti’s independence…

In 1804 Haitians won a revolt against Napoleons army, becoming the first independent black nation in the world. Every January 1st Haitians remember that triumphant day with family, friends and of course food!!!

Haitian food is quite unique and though it features many flavours from the Caribbean, it is the culinary techniques borrowed from the French that sets its food apart. Haitian food is island cuisine filled with warm notes and tangy flavours; it is not generally vegan (or vegetarian), however, we have done our best to presence the essence of these traditional dishes and infuse them with the same care and practices you’d expect to see in Haiti. We really hope you enjoy this special menu:

Menu

Introduction Course: Soup Joumou {Acorn Squash Soup with Coconut Milk, Cilantro and Noodles}.

Second Course: Raw Salade Russe tossed with Watercress, Peas and Shaved Ruby Beets served on Mais Moulin

Main Course: Aubergine and Choux Toufée {Eggplant & Cabbage Strew} served with Riz Djon-Djon {Mushroom Rice} and Ti-Malice Sauce and Plantain Chip

Dessert: Haitian Coconut & Cassava Flan served with a Coconut “Tablet Cocoye” and Confiture Chadeque

Tickets are available in advance only.

Cost is $45 for a 4-course dinner + Coffee/Tea service.

Space is limited to 16 seats so make sure to snatch up your tickets early before they sell out.
