Marineland Closing Day Demonstration

From the facebook event: Join us as we mark the end of another season at the captive animal facility Marineland Canada. We will be hosting a demonstration at Marineland Canada in Niagara Falls on Closing Day from 12 to 3pm. For information on parking view our parking FAQ here: http://marinelandanimaldefense.com/post/29666276818/marineland-demonstration-parking-strategy Marineland is a captive animal facility located in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Marineland is one of the most widely publicized and controversial captive facilities in Canada. Marineland has been the target of intense local, regional and international criticism for keeping whales (they currently house the largest group of captive belugas in the world), dolphins and pinnipeds (walruses and sea lions); for its ongoing removal of significant numbers of whales, dolphins and pinnipeds from the wild; and for providing their land animal species (elk, deer and bears) with barren, often overcrowded conditions. Make your own signs, or borrow one when you arrive. We set up across from the walk-in gate entrances on the grass. If anyone has any questions or concerns about the demo please contact: marinelandanimaldefense@gmail.com Many thanks for your ongoing support!! Hope to see you there – feel free to cross post this message.

Things I Love Thursday – So many things. Books, Art, Videos, World Record Achievements

I’m glad I’ve got writing TILTs as part of my routine on Thursday. We’ve been back from our not-honeymoon for a few days and I feel like I’ve been playing catch up with the real world, projects, life stuff, house stuff, and foster cat stuff. West End Food Co-op CSO This week I picked up the remainder of the West End Food Co-op Community supported orchard program preserves I had amassed during the last CSO summer season. For anyone that has considered signing up but been put off by the initial cost – I think it’s worth it, especially if like me, you eat a lot of vegetables. Even splitting it amongst friends would leave you with lots of amazing preserves and treats for the rest of the year. The experience, the community, and the education at the WEFC Community Kitchen/Community Cannery is amazing. Future classes and events. On Tuesday, Doug McNish was also demoing his newest book Raw, Quick, and Delicious, so while I was there I picked up a free copy as a thank you for being one of the testers on this book. I’m not the most enthusiastic about making raw food usually – mostly because it’s typically so time consuming. So when testing for this one I was pleasantly and genuinely surprised at how actually quick (and delicious) many of the recipes I tried were. I’ll have to dig into the book again soon. Check out his demo on Breakfast Television Flowers My parents left Toronto while we…

Not Everyone Loves Marineland. – Marineland Opening Day Demo – May 18th.

Over a 1000 people joined in on the Marineland Opening Demo organized by Marineland Animal Defense this weekend. It felt like a pretty awesome show of solidarity with dozens of whistleblowers facing lawsuits, the captive marine and other animal life locked up in the jail/”amusement” park, as well as the community at large (please see GoHomeless.ca,) in addition to the various SLAPP suits (Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation) they’ve thrown at organizers and the media and anyone else they don’t like (or threatened with lawsuits – even the OSPCA).
